The Department started offering M.Sc. Visual Communication from the year 2004. Yet another course M.A. Media Arts (Oodaha Kalaihal) was started in 2006, with the efforts of Fr Rajanayagam SJ and his colleagues. The medium of instruction was ‘Tamil’ the vernacular of the region. The course aimed at giving opportunity to talented youth with a rural background to get trained as professionals for the Tamil Media world. The Bachelor Degree in Multi Media & Animation was begun in 2014. Unique of its kind, the course offers industry oriented major core subjects like Animation, Graphic Design, Gaming, VFX and related subjects.
The Department is at present housed in a well-designed building ‘School of Media Studies’ equipped with the necessary infrastructure and facilities. Now the Department caters to more than 350 students doing B.Sc. Visual Communication (Shift-I and Shift –II), B.Sc. Multi Media Animation and M.Sc. Visual Communication (Shift-II).
The Department remembers with gratitude our founding mentors Dr Rajanayagam SJ, Prof. Rabi Bernard, Fr L.X. Jerome, SJ, Prof. Henry Maria Victor, and our HODs Dr. Suresh Paul and Dr. Chinnappan.
