Jiwaji University was established in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, on May 23, 1964, and was named after Jivajirao Scindia, the former ruler of Gwalior. The university was founded through an ordinance by the Madhya Pradesh government. The foundation stone was laid by the then-President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, on December 11, 1964, on a 225-acre campus located at the Naulakha Parade ground
