Established on 19 December 2006, CIT Kokrajhar emerged from the 2003 Memorandum of Settlement (MoS signed by the Assam Government, Government of India, and the Bodo Liberation Tigers Union, aiming to address Bodo community educational aspirations. It was later granted Deemed University status in December 2018 by UGC under the De-Novo category.
Spread across ~300 acres in Kokrajhar (Assam, it offers programs including B.Tech, B.Des, M.Tech, M.Des, PhD, and Diplomas, focusing on integrating technical/vocational education for regional empowerment and mainstreaming Bodo youth.
