The Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology, emerged out of rich tradition of the Science College, Jorhat. The Science College, established in 1971 with undergraduate courses in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics was first college in the whole of the NE India to be accredited by NAAC. It kept its flag flying high, producing first rate Scientists, Educationists, Administrators, prominent among them are Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar awardee, VC of Gauhati University, faculty members in leading universities such as NYC, IITs and IISERs, IIFA awardee. It has been consistently producing best graduates and toppers in different subjects of the University. Many of them went on to get prestigious fellowships across the globe such as the NASA Hubble fellowship among others. It has done a trailblazing effort to contribute to the pool of human resources of the state and the country.
