Mar. Gregorios Memorial Shalem English School (MGM) was established in the year 2000 under the auspices of St. Thomas Orthodox Shalem Church Kelakam. It was started by the Parish for fulfilling the long demands of the farming community in the nearby Panjayaths of Kelakam, Kottiyoor and Kanichar. Later the school was handed over to St. Thomas Orthodox Shalem Educational Trust. The foundation stone of the New School building was laid on 09-09-2006 by H.G.KURIAKOSE Mar. Clemis, Metropolitan of Sulthan Bathery Diocese. The new building was consecrated on 07-10-2007 by the same metropolitan. The inauguration of the new school building was done on 22-10-2007 by the then M.P. of Kannur, Sri. A.P. Abdullakutty in the presence of Sri. K.C. Kunhiraman, MLA of North Wayanad. The school got affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi in January 2011 and approved by the Govt. of Kerala through its NOC, No. 245/2011. The School also got Minority status from the National Minority Commission on 22nd November 2016.
