MAFSU was established on December 3, 2000, under the Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University Act, 1998. Headquartered in Nagpur, it was created by carving out seven colleges from four state agricultural universities in Maharashtra to specialize in animal and fishery sciences.
The university focuses on education, research, and extension in veterinary and fishery sciences. It aims to develop skilled professionals and technologies to enhance animal health, production, and fisheries in the state.
