Tripura University, located in Suryamaninagar, Tripura, was established on October 2, 1987, under the Tripura University Act, 1987. Initially, it functioned as a postgraduate center under Calcutta University before being upgraded to a state university. In 2007, it attained the status of a Central University through the Tripura University Act, 2006, enacted by the Parliament of India.
